Keeping your Discover card online account secure starts with a few simple habits. These ten tips help you protect your login credentials, reduce fraud risk, and stay in control of your account.
1

Use a strong, unique password

Create a password that is at least 12 characters long and mixes letters, numbers, and symbols. Do not reuse it on other sites. If one website is breached, reused passwords put every account at risk.
2

Store passwords in a password manager

A password manager generates and remembers complex passwords for you. You only need to remember one strong master password. This makes unique passwords practical for every account.
3

Enable two-step verification

Turn on two-step verification (also called two-factor authentication) in your Discover account settings. After entering your password, you will need a one-time code sent to your phone or email. This blocks attackers even if they guess your password.
4

Avoid public Wi-Fi for banking

Public Wi-Fi in cafes, airports, and hotels is often unsecured. If you must check your account on the go, use your mobile data or a trusted VPN instead.
5

Bookmark the official login page

Save https://www.discover.com in your browser bookmarks and use it every time. This reduces the chance of landing on a fake lookalike site from a search result or email link.
6

Log out on shared devices

If you log in from a library computer, friend’s phone, or any shared device, always click Log Out when finished. Do not let the browser save your password on devices you do not control.
7

Set up account alerts

Turn on login alerts, balance notifications, and transaction alerts in your account settings. Early warnings help you catch suspicious activity quickly.
8

Keep your devices updated

Install operating system, browser, and app updates promptly. Updates often include security patches that protect you from known threats.
9

Watch for phishing messages

Discover will never ask for your password or one-time code by phone, text, or email unsolicited. If a message pressures you to click a link or share a code, delete it and contact Discover using the number on the back of your card.
10

Review your statements regularly

Check your online statements at least once a week. If you see a charge you do not recognize, report it right away through the official Discover site or app.
If you suspect someone has accessed your account, change your password immediately and contact Discover using the phone number printed on the back of your card.
